The PMFBY Scheme operates on the basis of ‘Area Approach’ i.e., Defined Areas for each notified crop for widespread calamities.Under the scheme PMFBY government scheme, all eligible farmers including share croppers and tenant farmers growing the notified crops, natural growth crops in the notified areas are eligible for coverage. It aims at providing cover to farmers incurring loss in crop yield which may occur during sowing or harvesting or post harvesting period. Insurance coverage PMFBY provides a comprehensive insurance cover against failure of the crop thus helping in stabilising the income of the farmers. The Scheme covers all Food & Oilseeds crops and Annual Commercial/Horticultural Crops.

Documents Required for Applying FBY
For application online required some documents. The non-loanee farmers are required to submit necessary documentary evidences of land records prevailing in the State Records of Right (RoR), Land possession Certificate (LPC) etc.) Applicant must apply authorized documents. in case of sharecroppers/tenant farmers and the same is defined by the respective States in the notification itself. all documents must be issued by state government or central government.

Coverage of Risks Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) Following stages of the crop and risks leading to crop loss are covered under the scheme.
Prevention of Planting Risk: Insured area is prevented from sowing/planting due to deficit rainfall or adverse seasonal conditions.
Standing Crop (Ready season to Harvesting): Comprehensive risk insurance is provided to cover yield losses due to non-preventable risks viz. Drought, dry spells, flood, inundation,pests and diseases, landslides, natural fire and lightening, storm, hailstorm, cyclone,typhoon, tempest, hurricane and tornado.

Post-Harvest Losses: Coverage is available only up to a maximum period of two weeks from the harvesting for those crops which are allowed to dry in cut and spread condition in the field after harvesting against specific perils of Hailstorm, cyclone, cyclonic rains and unseasonal rains.
